    Getting Around - Bilbao

    Bilbao Airport

Bilbao Airport - Photo by YisrisBilbao’s stylish new airport is located in Sondika, 5 kilometres north east of the city centre. Easy Jet flies from London Stansted. The airport is also served by British Airways, Luftansa, Spanair, Alitalia, Air France, Air Berlin, AerLingus and Iberia, amongst others. The cheapest and easiest way to get into town is by bus. The “Bizkaibus” departs every half hour from the pavement outside arrivals and goes to Bilbao bus terminal, stopping at Plaza Moyua on the way. The ticket costs less than €2.00.

    General Transport

    Bilbao Metro
Within Bilbao itself, there are various forms of public transport. In addition to the Bilbobus city bus service, the Metro Bilbao is extremely convenient, its single line within Bilbao splitting into two lines after San Inazio station. It runs between 06.00 and 23.00 (earlier on Fridays) and is ticketed on a zone system. The EuskoTran Tram from Atxuri Station to Basurto runs on a single line along the river, passing the Guggenheim Museum on the way.

If you are going to take more than one or two journeys on any form of public transit, the best plan is to buy a CreditTrans card. Up to 50% cheaper than a single fare, it is valid on all the municipal transit systems in Bilbao. It is a pay per ride card available at all Metro and Tram stations in denominations of €5, €10, and €15. It is also available at many newspaper stands.
