Easy access to Guggenheim and to the old city. The hotel is on the river front, though we didn't have a river view (which possibly made the room quieter - we slept with the window open to reduce air-con noise and consumption). The rooms were perfectly adequate, but we would have liked a kettle/ tea coffee-making facilities. The breakfast was excellent and definitely worth having. The hotel's underground car park was full (and very expensive) - see below.

The Guggenheim was the best thing about Bilbao for us. It is well worth a few hours relaxed visit - the architecture at least as interesting as the art. You can get a bracelet when you leave which allows you to re-enter then same day. Much of the modern city was uninteresting and had a very slightly run-down feel. The old city is worth visiting with plenty of cafes, though it closed down at 9pm which astonished us. We parked in nearby streets - the only difficulty was understanding the parking meters - we weren't the only people peering at them, mystified, and it took two passers-by to explain the system. Overnight was free (and in August the afternoon too, apparently). The streets were crawling with traffic wardens the next morning, so definitely make sure you have a ticket covering the morning until you leave.

Found some of the staff grumpy and not willing to explain things for international visitors those not being spanish speakers. Book the parking with room booking as spaces are limited.

Car parking in the underground hotel car park is limited and is 20 euros per day. There is a public underground car park about 1/4 mile along the road. Guggenheim museum is only 5min. walk.In fact you can walk to old and new town easily from hotel.

Restaurants are very difficult to find after 4pm! Go for a menu del dia at lunchtime or tapas between 5 and 9pm.

The hotel is easy to find, and the on-site parking is good and reasonably priced. The Express breakfast now offered by the hotel is very good value and I would highly recommend it.
Top Tip
The location is ideal for visiting the Guggenheim Museum, and there is an excellent park close by for children. We struggled for restaurants locally - and decided we should have done some research before visiting the city! Ideally located for the ferry port.
